A Message from the Sikh Coalition’s Executive Board Chairman

Dear Supporter Ji,

This year was one of significant changes for so many in our community. As I reflect on the Sikh Coalition’s work throughout the year, I find that several key milestones we experienced mirrored this same dynamic.

We welcomed a new executive director, helped facilitate a White House summit against hate, answered approximately 200 legal intakes, filed a landmark employment discrimination case against the U.S. government, fought for Sikh inclusion in 7 different states’ social studies standards, and joined with partners and allies across the country to mark the 10 year anniversary of the 2012 attack in Oak Creek.

As I welcomed the birth of our second child this year, I reflected that he, his sister, and children everywhere may face more egregious discrimination than I thought possible a decade ago. The incidents of discrimination, hate crimes, and school bullying that we have seen in recent years are getting worse. It is more important than ever to do the work that helps people and communities help themselves. Now is not the time to get complacent or shrink from these growing challenges.

At the Sikh Coalition, we use media and publicity to effect change, but the work is often more tiresome and mundane than the successes you see publicly. The Sikh Coalition team inspires me with their unsung and tireless efforts every day—working on a wide range of advocacy, community development, education, and legal work without knowing the outcome in the moment or caring if it becomes known broadly.

As we head into the last few days of the year, I’m asking you to continue investing in these efforts with me. Between now and the end of the year—11:59 PM PT on December 31—anonymous donors will match contributions to the Sikh Coalition up to $100,000. If you donate during this time, the impact of your investment will be doubled.

The Sikh Coalition is committed to ensuring that every legal victory is accompanied by an inclusive policy change, every educational resource reaches as many classrooms as possible, and every effort to engage with the sangat is accessible to gurdwaras across the country. This work is only possible because of the support of donors like you.

As always, we thank you for your support of our essential work in the past—and we wish you and yours a very happy New Year!

Chardi Kala,

Narinder Singh
Executive Board Chairman
